North County Chapter

The North County Chapter of Lawyers Club is a chapter of the Lawyers Club of San Diego and promotes the advancement of the status of women in the law in the northern portion of San Diego County. We welcome all lawyers who either live, practice or have interest in supporting women's issues in north county.

The North County Chapter of Lawyers Club was informally established in 1977. The founding members included Dorothy Cole, Gerry Curtis Coleman, Mae Fenton (now Leigh Robinson), Suzanne Knauf, Janet Lacy, Colleen O'Harra, Marguerite Wagner, Kathleen Dunn Wellman, and others. The Chapter began as a regular gathering for mutual support in the North County area where there were only a handful of practicing women attorneys. It was such a small group, they actually discussed forming their own law firm. In 1980, this small group was invited to join the Lawyers' Club, and became official.

The Chapter initially met in people's homes and local restaurants and held informal discussions pertaining to the unique challenges for women in the law. The Chapter also held weekly consciousness raising meetings which helped to foster the closeness enjoyed by the founding members.

Over the years, the Chapter has grown and become an established part of the North County legal community. Although the Chapter has experienced ebbs and flows in membership, the North County Chapter now holds various educational seminars, monthly meetings, and offers an opportunity to form invaluable friendships and business relationships.
