Lawyers Club Of San Diego Fund For Justice Statement Of Purpose:

To make charitable gifts in the name of Lawyers Club of San Diego (“Lawyers Club”) and its members to grantees who address Lawyers Club's mission to advance the status of women* in law and society, including but not limited to:

  1. Domestic and sexual violence against women and non-binary victims with emphasis on legal services, education, awareness and prevention;

  2. Gender discrimination, harassment, or bias against women and non-binary victims; and

  3. The unmet legal needs of women and non-binary victims, particularly programs that support and improve the administration of justice.

In appropriate charitable contexts, Fund for Justice also seeks to facilitate and highlight volunteerism and community service by Lawyers Club members. From time to time, the Board may adopt a strategic priority or issue, which the Fund for Justice should consider in both soliciting grant applications and recommending the award of grants.

Limitations: The Fund only makes grants to organizations that:

  1. Have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status;

  2. Propose projects in San Diego County; and

  3. Comply with Lawyers Club's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy.

The Fund does not make grants to organizations that:

  1. Have a religious, political or lobbying purpose, except where these activities are incidental to the primary organizational mission; or

  2. Whose primary function is to allocate funds to other charitable organizations or projects.

*Both cis and transgender, regardless of sexual orientation

Apply for a Grant: Once per year the LC Fund for Justice Committee accepts applications for grants. This year, the application process opens on May 10th and closes at 11:59 p.m. on July 1, 2021. Once received, a Fund for Justice Committee member may contact the applicant to conduct a site visit in order to become more acquainted with the applicant organization. Grants if approved may be awarded from $500-$5,000 and we expect to notify applicants in November of decisions.

To apply, please use THIS FORM and submit the requested supplemental electronic information in PDF format with separate electronic PDF files with file names which include applicant name in the title. For example: "ACME” would submit PDF files named as follows: ACME application, ACME IRS determination, ACME financial statements 2018, ACME financial statements 2019, ACME 2020 budget and ACME board biographies. Do not send paper copies.

Successful applicants will be required to submit reports of the program’s progress to the Fund. An initial report will be expected at 9 months and subsequent reports as appropriate. Unused funds must be returned to the Fund for Justice.
