Our longest serving executive director, Elaine Lawrence, retires tomorrow, April 30, 2021. Elaine has been our “servant leader”, her preferred title, since 2011. We are deeply grateful for Elaine, who has been the rock of our organization for the last decade. I count it among my blessings that I’ve had the opportunity to work with her and benefit from the tremendous asset of her leadership during my presidency of Lawyers Club.
Since 2011, Elaine has dedicated her life to the well-being and growth of our bar association. During her tenure as executive director, Elaine has solidified the organization’s day-to-day operations. She has fortified our fiscal position by nurturing relationships with sponsors and members. She has strengthened our Board, staff, and leadership by providing steady, insightful, and dynamic guidance. She has been called upon to share her wisdom with other executive directors in California and beyond.
Simply stated, Elaine is a rock star, and she will be missed more than words can say. Luckily for all of us her legacy will remain a beacon of light and a stable foundation for our new executive director, Laura H. Handzel, who has been onboarding with Elaine this month, and officially takes the reigns on May 1, 2021.
Our most heartfelt gratitude to Elaine for her extraordinary service to Lawyers Club. We wish her a retirement filled with happiness and relaxation. And we bid adieu with an Irish blessing, “May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon her fields. And until we meet again, may God keep you in the palm of God’s hand”
