On December 17, 2021, the U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of Judge Jinsook Ohta. This makes Judge Ohta the first Asian Pacific American female judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

Judge Ohta’s background is impressive. She received her B.A. from Yale University and her J.D. from New York University. After law school, she served as a law clerk for Judge Barry Moskowitz of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. After working at two preeminent law firms, O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles and Sheppard Mullin in San Diego, Judge Ohta worked in the consumer protection section of the CA Attorney General’s office. In 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Judge Ohta to the San Diego Superior Court.

Before her appointment to the bench, Judge Ohta served on the Board of Directors of Lawyers Club of San Diego and also as a Committee Co-chair.

Lawyers Club applauds Judge Ohta’s success and confirmation to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
